CleanCycle Carbon’s Lewiston, North Carolina plant is the first small-scale CO₂ liquefaction facility in the United States. Fully operational since December 2024, the facility utilizes biogas by-products from industrial protein processing as its feedstock—transforming waste gases that would otherwise be flared or vented into high-purity, beverage-grade liquid CO₂. This approach not only reduces direct CO₂ emissions from both protein processing and RNG operations but also enhances the efficiency of renewable natural gas production by eliminating methane slip.

The collective project in Lewiston was recognized at the 2025 USPOULTRY Environmental Conference for its groundbreaking sustainability initiatives, which have set a new standard for environmental innovation. By installing RNG and CO₂ capture infrastructure, the project mitigated 17% of Perdue’s corporate-wide emissions and has become a showcase for sustainability and innovation in the protein industry. It was an incredible team effort between Perdue, GreenGas (the RNG developer), EFI, and CleanCycle Carbon.

The sustainability advantages of capturing and reusing CO₂-rich waste streams are significant. For RNG facilities, integrating a CleanCycle Carbon liquefaction unit can increase overall efficiency by reducing methane slip.

Designed for scalability and adaptability, CleanCycle Carbon’s technology can be seamlessly integrated into existing RNG infrastructure. This modular, high-impact solution positions the company to expand across the RNG sector, helping build a more sustainable and resilient CO₂ supply chain.
