EFI has been solving environmental containment challenges around the world for over three decades. The remarkable story of EFI’s Founder and Board Chairman, Dennis Shanklin, is captured in this newly released book An Accidental Environmentalist.

Sewage pools, both livestock and human, are a major but hidden source of methane and other heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere. Covering those pools and channeling those gases for productive use is not a big technical challenge, but implementing these solutions in the real world has been difficult. While ideologically driven environmentalists struggled to sustain a business, Dennis Shanklin responded pragmatically to the market needs and developed solutions that worked. He was drawn to hard problems and solved most of them. In overcoming a variety of macro- and micro-economic challenges - at one point sales were so poor that he mortgaged his house - he built a company called EFI and set an example of practical environmentalism that can inspire entrepreneurs in many areas of society. This is his story.

Book cover titled 'An Accidental Environmentalist' by Dennis Shanklin, EFI's founder, with a foreword by Marc Fetten.
